When coming down, we recommend that you consider staying in Durango. Frankly there is nothing to do on the San Juan when you are there. It is fine if you want some basic accomodation on the river and just fish for a day, but there are basically minimal decent eating facilities and one bar. Durango is only 45 minutes away on a major arterial highway. It is a great town with excellent food and facilities to support a population of over 16,000.
